Write all of your 2022 blogs today
Jan 05, 2022I don’t hide the fact that I write most of my blogs in a big batch for the entire year. So how do I do it? While staying relevant and on brand?
Let me peel back the curtain and take you through my process!
1. Frequency. I first decide what I want my publishing schedule to look like for the year. Is it going to be fortnightly, monthly, weekly? For me I like fortnightly, specifically the first and third Wednesday of the month. So I automatically know that I am going to need 24 blogs for the year. So easy.
2. Blog topic list. Next I open a blank document on Google Drive with each month as a heading and two spots below it. This is called my “blog run sheet” it is shared with my gorgeous VA who is a crucial part of the blog production process.
3. Brainstorm. Now this is the fun part! It is essentially the part that gives me 24 blog topic ideas to plug into the “blog run sheet”
- Instagram analytics. This is my first port of call. I check to see which of my Instagram posts have had the furthest reach, most saves and most interaction. Choosing 5-6 of those that I know I can repurpose into lengthier blog topics.
- Facebook groups. I have my own group, the HUB for Rural Business Women. I like to search and see if there are questions that keep popping up that I could possibly answer. These can account for another 3-4 topics.
- Content Pillars. All of my content generally falls into either personal, educational, or inspirational content.
- Under educational content, I usually focus on marketing, mindset, sales and systems. And I generally like to ensure I have at least one blog on each of these. That is another 4 topics!
- For personal content, I think of lessons learned or reflect on major moments in my business. Typically these posts perform really well. So I like to include at least 2 of them.
- Inspirational content, can be a bit tricky as usually I share client wins and successes in my socials as inspirational content. So I try to do the same, but pick particular success stories and transform them into longform blogs. Similar to a case study! I usually like to include 2 of these as well.
Now for anyone counting we are actually up to 18 topics (if not more!). I almost always have some topics that are just tickling my brain to talk about. But if you are struggling, jump on your stories, ask in Facebook groups- If you could ask an (insert your industry) expert anything what would it be? Or use polls to see which topics your audience is more attached to.
4. Create some banging headlines. A good blog is only as good as its headline. You’ve actually got to get people there. Here is a fantastic resource by the lovely Martha at WordCandy about headlines. And here is another great resource by HubSpot, Topic Generator.
5. Write. Now this is obvious hey? BUT the cool thing is, everytime I go to write a blog, the topic is already determined. The groundwork is already done in that I know it is a solid topic that resonates with my audience. This makes it so much easier to write!
A lot of my blogs get written in the notes section on my phone and then transferred to a Google doc. As each blog gets written, I just type READY on the blog run sheet, so my VA knows it is ready for production! She then does the scheduling and formatting of the blogs, adding graphics and social content, saving me a LOT of time.
