What is your ideal customer watching on Netflix?
Jun 15, 2022I try to create my content based upon the questions that come in through my DMs, my emails and even on my coaching calls with clients. I pride myself on creating a space where no question is silly and every answer is relevant to rural and regional women in business.
Consistently I get questions about connecting with an ideal customer or a target market. Finding those target clients. Or even finding more customers in general.
I always say your customer dictates everything in your business. From the offers you create to the language you use.
And I will be honest. For a very long time, I did not use language or tone or have offers that were aligned to my target market. Despite being a marketing expert, I didn’t have that birdseye view of my own business to course correct myself!
I want you to ask yourself, are you clear on who your ideal customer is? Do you know what drives them and motivates them? Do you use language that connects to them?
Most importantly. Do you know what they are watching on Netflix? Or what they are reading?
If we can get to know our customers and their values, social habits, family structure… it allows us to create content that dives below the surface.
I can say with confidence that a majority of my target audience are fans of either Schitts Creek or Bridgerton, and if you aren’t I actually have no idea how you landed on this blog… but you should probably go rewatch both and report back.
Even if you’re an established business, it’s a good idea to refocus and reevaluate your ideal customer. Think about their language, their social cues, their behaviour patterns… Even the food they like to eat? Like is your audience a parma and a pint crowd? Or is champagne brunch their favourite?
Ensure your audience is aligned with the product or service you’re turning out. Having a downturn in business? Or if you feel like your messaging isn’t landing. Now is a great time to check in on your ideal customer persona.
Determining your ideal client is such an important part of business. It is yet another place where the 80/20 rule applies. While you might have a hundred customers 80% of your income is likely coming from 20% of your customers.
These are your real brand champions. These are the people you want to produce for, create for and invite to join your community.
Having a clear understanding of your ideal customer is more than sales. It means the content you produce has a solid target to land on. It means you’ve got clarity when you’re writing content. It means you know the psychology of your buyer- which makes business so much more fun!
