Are you serious about success?

Would you say you’re INTERESTED in, or COMMITTED to business success?
Because there’s a BIG difference between the two!
Most small business owners are INTERESTED in success but only some are COMMITTED to ensuring it.
This fact was highlighted to me again recently.
I was speaking at an event last month and after my presentation I had people wanting to chat about their business, ask questions specific to them about their marketing and challenges.
One lady thanked me for another thought-provoking, action inspired presentation. She then said ‘another’, because she had seen me speak about six months earlier on a webinar around the same topic.
I thanked her for coming along today and enquired how business was going.
“Not great”, she replied wearily.
She explained she was busy, but despite the long hours she was putting in, she still wasn’t really making much money.
I asked if she had attempted to apply some of the strategies outlined in my webinar that she attended, she looked at me and said something that stunned me…
She said, “You know what I’ve done with your advice, NOTHING.”
“I haven’t even had time to flick through the pages of notes I took when I attended it”!
Unfortunately, I hear statements like this more often than I’d like.
Here is a small business owner who is clearly suffering. Her business is draining her: physically, emotionally and financially.
She is struggling to make the business work, she gives herself a little respite by attending the occasional business event where she hopes to hear some ideas about how to turn it all around, or at least get a dose of motivation so she can continue the fight.
Inspired by what she heard me say, she took lots of notes, wrote a to-do list of actions to take to help grow her business, as she knows she desperately needs to do something different.
But when she leaves the event with a little new-found energy pumping through her veins and a book packed with practical ideas she could apply immediately, when she gets back to work the only thing she has time to do is more of the same.
This is what is commonly known as INSANITY.
Einstein said, “You can’t solve a problem with the same mindset that created it.”
To continue to do what you know isn’t working day after day and expect things to change is the definition of insanity.
The question I asked you at the top of this blog is a question I regularly ask my clients and at my presentations.
Who is interested in earning more money, winning more clients and creating a better lifestyle?
Whenever I ask it everyone in the audience raises their hands.
But the fact is INTERESTED won’t get you there.
You need to be COMMITTED if you are going to win in business.
Committed to becoming a BETTER MARKETER of what you do.
And remember marketing is EVERYTHING so if you’re in business, you’re in the business of marketing!
The likelihood is the gap between where are now and where you’d like to be, will be found in your ability to Market Your Talent to other people.
If you are so busy doing all the STUFF in your business and you don’t have time to MARKET your business, you are in for a LONG, and likely PAINFUL ride.
Marketing is the lifeblood of your business and should never be reduced to a “when I get time” activity.
So, if you are committed to achieving success here’s what I suggest:
- Get yourself a MENTOR
- Start making time to work ON your business, not just IN your business
- Set aside CEO days in your calendar (mark them out NOW before your calendar fills up
- Follow people on social media who are where you want to be. Interact with them, soak up all their goodness
- INVEST in yourself and your business. Buy that course, hire that coach, hire that VA (virtual assistant)
- MAKE MARKETING A PRIORITY
If you are not happy with the number of clients you’re attracting or the income you’re earning then I suggest you make sure you’re not TOO BUSY to implement from the list above.
I can promise you these will be one of the most valuable investments of time you will make in the growth of your business.
WARNING it will take COMMITMENT to succeed in business. If you’re only INTERESTED you will be unlikely to ever apply what you’ll learn along the way anyway.
If you think of success as a mountain to climb, remember, no one ever fell to the top!
