My journey to choosing my business coach

I have used coaches before in one-off strategy sessions. But in early 2020 I knew to get my business to the next level I was going to need a coach with me every step of the way. Someone that was going to call me out when I got distracted by shiny object syndrome, someone who was going to hold me accountable to my own goals, and someone that was going to push me out of my comfort zone.
Engaging in a coaching relationship, even a business coaching one, transparency is key. I wanted someone I felt I could be open and honest with. I didn’t want to feel like a reduced or changed version of myself in the relationship- literally the best version of me.
I knew straight away I wanted my coach to also be a mother. The mental load you carry as a mother does not go away just because you’re running a business. So I wanted someone that would understand the complexity that goes with the mixed dynamic of motherhood and business.
I also knew that while I wanted growth I didn’t want it alongside hustle and heartache. I wanted to grow but still feel like I had time and space to enjoy life and my family, and look after myself. So I wanted someone that spoke about growing with ease and taught that as well.
The last thing was specific to my business. I didn’t want just a business coach, I wanted a coach for coaches. Someone who was very niche and specialised.
These were the key factors I was looking for. Plus just a vibe. Good energy. Good connection.
So ultimately how did I find the person that I signed up for now 10 months of coaching with?
I started by asking for recommendations. I found some options, but not a good match. Then I did a Google search. Didn’t find anyone with my vibe. Then I moved to Instagram and just searched hashtags.
This is when I started getting serious. Stalking a few coaches. Listening to their training. And then one day I committed to a free 30-minute call. By the next Tuesday, I was signed up and ready to hit the ground running.
For me, it was an easy yes. I was ready to buy. I knew what I needed. I just had to find the person. This is why I love to have free calls with people, so we can have an open honest discussion and see if we are both a fit for the coaching relationship.
